August 1, 2012: 20 weeks
Today was another great appointment!! The best news of all is that I am NOT going on bed rest next week in the hospital. Since Dr. Shah was out of the office we had our appointment with the other doctor-- Dr. Moodley. He said he was really impressed with my cervix (haha...sounds funny when I read that aloud but those were his words). At this stage in a pregnancy with so many babies most people have a visible opening in the cervix however I did not. This news in combination with how well the babies are growing is what kept me at home for at least another week. He felt it was better for me to be at home eating food I like and getting up and moving around a little bit. We will go back on August 8th for them to take the same measurements. As long as everything is still going well it sounds like I will be able to prolong bed rest a week at a time.
Surprisingly Dr. Moodley also told us that I need to start eating even more than what I already am--I know some of you say you would LOVE to be able to eat that much everyday but there are times where I disgust even myself at the amount of food that I am able to down!!
At our next appointment we are also meeting with a neonatal doctor to talk about the risks and survival rates of babies at each week if they were to be delivered at 24 weeks, 26 weeks, etc... I look forward to this information because it is something I have been thinking about for a while. Even though Jake and I both research how the typical baby develops each week its always nice to get it directly from doctors who have delivered preemies and know firsthand what our biggest concerns should be.
Our goal is still to get to at least 30 weeks--truly hoping we can push it even farther to 32 weeks but as most of us know sometimes babies have minds of their own!
